    Swiss player Leandro Riedi, ranked No. 435 and entering via a protected ranking due to two knee surgeries, has stunned fans by reaching the fourth round of the US Open 2025 his deepest run in a major to date. This feat makes him the lowest-ranked player to reach the fourth round of any Grand Slam in over two decades, and the lowest-ranked at the US Open since Jay Berger in 1985. His journey began through qualifying, where he claimed his first-ever main-draw win and followed with a stunning comeback against 19th seed Francisco Cerúndolo, overturning two sets down to win in five. A second-round retirement win over Kamil Majchrzak has now set up a Round of 16 showdown with eighth seed Alex de Minaur. Riedi’s performance is expected to propel him approximately 271 places up to around World No. 164, marking a major career breakthrough and proving that perseverance can defy rankings.
